Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Arenal

Airport pick up (San Jose) and transfer to the Arenal Volcano region. This ride takes about 2.5 hours and we can take you there no matter at what time you arrive. This is a private transfer.

The San Bosco hotel is conveniently located right in the town of La Fortuna within walking distance to banks, shops, restaurants.

Day 2: Active day!

Today is an active day in Arenal.

In the morning choose one of the following half day tours:

1-Hanging Bridges - Guided Natural History tour. You will be able to appreciate the natural beauties of the rain forest, thanks to the imposing and huge hanging bridges and well kept trails.

2-ATV - All Terrain Vehicles - During your adventure, feel free to cool off in a natural, crystal-clear pool with stunning views and a spectacular waterfall any time of year.

3-Waterfall Rappel - 5 Rappels (4 waterfalls and 1 rock wall) in a rainforest. Hiking on beautiful trails in the canyon between rappels.

After enjoying one of those morning tours and at about 3:00pm you will be picked up to go on a nice hike to the Arenal Volcano. On flat terrain you will walk for about 30 minutes to a location where you will enjoy a spectacular view of the volcano and Arenal Lake.

After the hike you will visit Baldi Hot Springs and enjoy the many thermal pools. Buffet dinner included at Baldi. Baldi pics here.

Day 3: Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.

Enjoy a full day tour in Caño Negro. This location is about 1.5 hours away from your hotel. You will board a boat for a 2-hour ride on the Rio Frio to venture into the Caño Negro refuge itself, where you will observe a large number of animals in a true rain forest environment.

After lunch (included in Caño Negro) you drive back to the hotel where you arrive at about 3:30pm

Day 4: Free day in Arenal or Monteverde.

Today is a free day. All you have to do is go to Monteverde Cloud Forest which is about 3 hours away. This is a shared transfer (other people may come along) across Lake Arenal.

You may want to spend the morning in Arenal and leave in the afternoon or leave early and have a free afternoon in Monteverde.

If you want to take a particular tour this is the time to do it.

Day 5: Monteverde Cloud Forest

Today you enjoy one of the best canopy tours (Zip Line) in the country at Selvatura Park. Later you will hike The Walkways which is a network of suspended bridges and trails where you get to enjoy the cloud forest from above. The Walkways tour may be guided or with no guide. If you prefer to have a guide there is a small additional fee.

Selvatura has other attractions which you may visit (optional) like a serpentarium, butterfly garden and a hummingbird exhibit. Just visit their webpage and let me know what you like.

Day 6: Manuel Antonio Beach

Today you may choose to have an optional morning tour in Monteverde or just leave early to the beach.

This is a shared transfer (other tourists might ride along) and it lasts about 5 hours.

Day 7: Beach and Nature day!

After breakfast you will visit the famous Manuel Antonio Park. This is a half day tour to one of the most visited national parks in the country. Lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery.

After the tour you will be driven back to the hotel or you can stay in the park enjoying the beach and nature trails. Some people like to come out for lunch and go back in.

Day 8: Manuel Antonio Beach

Today you will enjoy a challenging but gratifying ocean kayak experience. You will paddle your way to Biesanz Bay where there are three small but active coral reefs where you can snorkel. You may also just relax at the white-sand beach if you prefer. Then you may continue paddling towards Manuel Antonio Beach to visit the nesting island sites for some local bird species.

If you feel that kayaking is out of your league you may enjoy a boat tour at the Damas Island mangroves. Here you will learn about the plant and animal species of this interesting ecosystem. You will also enjoy watching the many monkeys as they migrate across the mangrove.

You may also do the mangrove tour on a kayak instead of a boat.

In the afternoon you come back to San Jose - airport area (3 hours). This is a shared transfer. You will be dropped off at a location close to the hotel but you will need to take a short taxi ride.

Day 9: Adios!

Today we take you to the international airport in San Jose (15 minutes away).

If your flight is in the afternoon there are many optional half day tours available out of San Jose: San Jose city tour, Coffee tour, Poas Volcano, Waterfall Gardens, Lankester Gardens and many others.
